helped plan the 1942 assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, who was third-in-command to Hitler, at the tail-end of World War II. He worked as an FBI as a research intelligence specialist in the United States for 10 years before his passing. Joyce wears a simple silver band on her wrist in memory of her late husband, she says she is "waiting patiently until I join him up in Heaven." The inside of the band is engraved with "I love you, I do" and their marriage dates.

“ The first picture is of two angels (first image below). I painted that for my youngest grand-nephew, Aidan. When he saw me drawing an angel for someone else, he said, ‘Aunt Joyce, I have two angels,’ hence the two angels. And then I said to him, ‘Aidan you have to name them, they have names.’ Six years old, he says, ‘Oh, I know who they are, that’s God Heaven and Jesus Heaven.’ I said, ‘Do you know which is which?’ ‘Oh yes, this one is God Heaven and this one is Jesus Heaven.’ So that’s written on the back of their robes, and then I gave him a piece of chalk to write his name because he was just learning the alphabet, so his name is sitting there on the bottom.

The others, The Divine Mercy (second image below) is the image as Christ appeared to Sister Faustina in Poland, Warsaw. I visited that shrine, and the original was there. The next picture is The Trinity (third image below). The white emanating from the top represents God the Father. The cross, of course with the robe, indicates that Christ has left the tomb and has risen. The bottom is the Holy Spirit symbol heading down to Earth, us. And that’s The Trinity. And this is the Holy Spirit that lives within everybody, that’s who that is (fourth image below). And somebody pointed out, ‘You didn’t put legs.’ I said ‘He never stops, that’s why. He doesn’t need them. He’s in us.’

And this last one over here (fifth image below), is nothing that I started deliberately to make. But as I sit and stare at it, I can see Christ crucified, and then the center is his heart, where it looks like a ghost, and I believe that would be a fallen robe. And I see from that the resurrected Christ. And I have these other pictures that I did (images 7-12 below). I made Christmas cards out of them and had some verse in each one for Christmas. ‘Rejoice for God lives among us,’ that’s what that one says.
